Pastor’s Note 2/23/20

Sr. Emily and Sr. Pawla from the Congregation of the Sisters of Merciful Jesus came to us from Pittsburgh last weekend to lead us in a parish mini-retreat on the Feast Day of Blessed Father Michael Sopocko, the Spiritual Director and Confessor to St. Faustina. The participants were greatly inspired by their joyful prayerfulness, compassion, and inspirational talks. The Sisters promised to keep our parish in their prayers. Anyone wishing to assist them in their mercy ministry can contact the pastor at the parish office.

The season of the annual Catholic Charities Appeal continues. We thank all supporters for their generosity, caring for the needs of many people receiving help in various ways through Catholic Charities. When donating, please always include our parish number “0507”, so we receive the proper credit. Our assigned parish goal for 2020 stays at $34,000.

To help make sure we have room for the people who currently request prayers, we will remove all the names from the list starting next Sunday. At the same time, starting now, we invite people to submit or resubmit the names of the seriously chronically sick or terminally ill, so a new bulletin list will be fully “resurrected” by Easter. This can be done by either calling the office at 8344282 or emailing bsctonawanda@gmail.com.

Anyone interested in a pilgrimage to Greece and Greek Isles in the footsteps of Sts. Paul and John the Apostles is invited to come to the information session this Monday, February 24 at 7:00 pm in Father Cotter Hall.

Lent starts this Ash Wednesday with marking the sign of the cross on our forehands. This is a 40 day long preparation period before Easter, characterized by traditional works of prayer, fasting, and charity. Ashes will be distributed during the 8:00 am and the 6:15 pm Masses, and also from noon to 12:30 pm at church. Stations of the Cross will be prayed each Friday of Lent at 7:00 pm. This year, the parish’s societies and ministries will lead us in praying the stations.

The first vicariate Lenten Journey session will be held next Monday at St. Andrew’s at 7:30 am. Pm?? Parish Lenten Be My Witness retreat will be held on five consecutive Thursdays at 6:30 pm, beginning March 6, in the Parish Center. We thank Lucy Stanton for coordinating this very exciting, fun, and prayerful series. Anyone can register now by contacting the parish office.
