Pastor’s Note 10/27/19

With Much Gratitude & Appreciation: Our full-time custodian, Tim McInerney, recently chose to return to the career he had prior to taking this position. We are very grateful for the many improvements Tim has implemented the past two years. Our beautiful and beloved campus is now better managed, organized and has a structured maintenance routine. Our parish has greatly benefited from Tim sharing his time and talents with us. We wish him all the best! We are also very grateful for several dedicated volunteers who help us on a regular basis with lawn mowing, landscaping, sidewalk snow removal, and minor repairs of all sorts. We are truly a blessed community! We recently posted the position for a part-time custodian to perform mostly cleaning and light maintenance.
We have a parish group outing to see a new movie “Faustina: Love and Mercy” this Monday, Oct. 28th, at 7pm at Regal on Transit. We will gather at Father Cotter Hall for an optional prayer of the Chaplet at 6:15 pm, followed by a carpool at 6:30pm. Our group tickets are sold out; however, tickets may still be purchased individually online. The Solemnity of All Saints on November 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated: Thursday (vigil) at 4:30pm Friday at 8:00am. All Soul’s Day is on Saturday, November 2nd; Masses for the intentions of all souls in Purgatory will be celebrated at 8am and at 11am. The 11am Mass is a special Memorial Mass for all the Faithful Departed souls whose bodies have been buried from our parish since last November 1st. The most effective and most perfect prayer we can offer for the souls in Purgatory is the Mass. The names of the souls to pray for in the Mass intention have been inscribed on the All Souls envelopes. They will be presented on the altar, included in the intentions at All Souls Masses on November 2nd, during the All Souls Nove-na, and throughout the year.
Reminder: The group discussion addressing the book, “Letter to the Suffering Church” by Bishop Robert Barron, will be held on Monday, November 4th, at 6:30 pm in Father Cotter Hall. This book was distributed by the parish a few weeks ago. All are encouraged to read the book and come share questions and comments. Our parish Pastor will be the evening facilitator.
One of the traditional ways to offer a prayer at church is to light a votive candle. Many people do it on regular basis, especially on Sundays. The cost of candles has significantly increased; the last cost adjustment was done well over a decade ago. Although we are able to maintain the suggested donation of $3 per candle, we must decrease the size of candles from the 5-day to the 3-day candles. Thank you for understanding.
Congratulations to Christopher Ahrens and Shawna Patterson! Their wedding will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church on November 2nd.
