Pastor’s Note 9/8/19

I am happy to report that the recent parish rummage sale organized and run by our parish Faith Formation Youth Minister, Carolyn Prefontaine, brought in a profit of $2,200 which will be used to help the Faith Formation and Youth Ministry programs.  Thank you to Carolyn and all those who came to help with set up and clean up.

Two years ago thanks to a most generous donation of equipment, expertise, and labor by parishioner Sal Sciria, and assisted by many hours of work by several other parish volunteers, we patched up and resealed all the parish  parking lots, paying only for the materials.  Since our parking lots were originally in poor condition by then, we need to maintain them regularly to keep them functional for many years to come.  Sal again came to the rescue this   summer repeating his offer to help.  I took him up on his most  generous and selfless offer, and with the help of several other parishioner volunteers, we resealed most of the parking lot areas, getting them ready for the harsh winter conditions and snow melting chemicals.  Sal’s generous gifts have been a tremendous help since our parish can hardly afford such  projects at full price.  Sal’s business offers pavement sealing and general maintenance services to the public, and one can contact him at 465-5544.  Thank you Sal and others.

Our parish is happy to host several community groups utilizing our buildings and grounds.  One of them we are proud to sponsor is Scout Troop #286.  One of their members, Phillip Callari, was granted the highest honor in Scouting, the Eagle Scout.  He chose our church as the venue to host the ceremony this Saturday and invited me to do the Invocation.  We congratulate Phillip and encourage parish families with children to consider joining scouting with Troop #286.

Starting last week, the new parish office hours are 9:00-noon and 12:30-3:00 pm, Monday-Thursday and 9:00-12:00 pm on Fridays.  We are grateful for two volunteers who stepped up to help us with small tasks at the office.

Volunteers are still needed to assist with the Faith Formation Youth Ministry program on Sunday evenings, starting this month.  Specifically, we still need help with  monitoring the youth in the gymnasium and during parish provided meal times.  Please call Carolyn at 949-8188, if you want to get involved in this exciting ministry.

All are invited to the parish outdoor Mass at 12:15 pm, followed by a picnic held on a grassy area between our church and Claremont Ave next Sunday.  If coming to a   second Mass that day, it is OK to receive Holy Communion at it.  It is a rain or shine event, with rainy locations being our church for the Mass and Father Cotter Hall for a social.
