Our parish Youth Ministry is happy to send five young people to the Annual Diocesan Youth Convention in Buffalo March 1-3rd. There they will meet, pray, and grow in faith together with hundreds of other young people from all over the diocese. In turn, after coming back to the parish, they will strengthen our youth ministry and parish life. There is a $185 cost per person to attend for the full weekend, and to make it affordable our parish will subsidize about half of it. We are very grateful to the few parishioners who already gave special generous donations helping three of our parish youth to attend the Convention. Anyone wishing to still help support it financially at any level, please contact me or Ms. Prefontaine.
Our parish will start soon a spring group book study titled “Queen of Heaven – Mary’s Battle for You”. It will be held on eight consecutive Thursday evenings, 7 – 8:30 pm, February 21 – April 11, in the Parish Center. The format will be similar to the “Consoling the Heart of Jesus” study we did over a year ago, with facilitated small group discussions, watching DVDs, and Q&A with the pastor. There are still openings to join, but books are limited. The cost of the study materials is $25 per person. The registration form is on page 5 of the bulletin.
The Upon This Rock (UTR) Parish and the Diocesan Fundraising Campaign continues. It is completely separate from the Catholic Charities Drive. Our parish receives its 1/3 share of parishioner donations twice a year in direct proportion to the pledges fulfilled. The amount received by us from UTR Funds the end of January was $12,367.69. It will be spent on special and ongoing maintenance projects on our campus. The next UTR check is expected in July, thanks to many generous givers. BTW, the Diocese assures us that no UTR donations can be used for the ongoing expenses and legal payouts in connection with the clergy sexual abuse scandals. Thank you to all participating in this important endeavor to support our parish and the Diocese.
We congratulate Anna Puchalski, one of our Sunday Mass Altar Servers on being awarded by Bp. Malone a special Altar server of the Year medal given to designated servers from many parishes in the diocese each year. The Award Mass is being celebrated this Saturday, February 16, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Buffalo. Sr. Lucette, Carolyn Prefontaine, and I will participate. Anna, in accepting the medal, will represent all the faithful servers from our parish. If anyone is interested in becoming a server, please contact Sr. Lucette or myself about training.
All parish youth and their friends are invited to participate in the Regional Youth Mass being hosted at our Blessed Sacrament church next Sunday, February 24th at 5:00 pm, followed by a social in the Parish Center.
Congratulations to Msgr. Leo McCarthy who celebrates his 60th priesthood ordination this year. Our parish will honor him with a special concelebrated 4:00 pm Mass and a reception dinner next Saturday, February 23rd.
