Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. It’s an occasion when we honor the kingship of Jesus Christ and His benevolent leadership over the eternal kingdom of God. Jesus redefined the concept of leadership from that of seeking to have others serve us to that of seeking to serve others, especially those in need. The readings this week help us understand Jesus’ example of servant leadership as one who came to show God’s love by helping others. In other words, he led by serving. Try to remember Christ’s example in your own roles…whether as a parent, a teacher, supervisor, or some other authority. Do you lead by serving? Are you aware of others’ needs? Do you help and empower others to fulfill God’s will in their lives? Incredible results are achieved when we practice servant leadership as Jesus did.
