Pastor’s Note October 7, 2018

All diocesan priests are encouraged by the Bishop to  attend a spiritual priests retreat each year.  I will be going to one early this week.  I promise to pray for you and ask for your prayers for all clergy.

Our parish is very blessed and very grateful to all the wonderful volunteers who so generously give their countless hours of their time and talent.  All those volunteer              parishioners who replied to the invitation will attend the annual Parish Volunteer Appreciation Dinner next Saturday, Oct. 13th, following the 4:00 pm Vigil Mass. May God reward abundantly your generous heart.

Throughout the year, we pray the Rosary for Life after each 6:15 pm Wednesday evening Mass in our Divine Mercy Chapel.  In the month of October we traditionally pray the Holy Rosary in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our spiritual Mother, asking for reparation for sin and bringing healing and unity to the Church.  Our parish Legion of Mary Society will be leading the Rosary prayer at the Our Lady of Fatima Grotto on Oct. 6th, following the Sunday Vigil Mass. Rosary is a very powerful spiritual weapon against the Evil one and sin.  Our parish Altar and Rosary Society invites everyone to join them in the prayer of the Rosary every weekday (except Wednesdays) this month at 7:00 pm in the church.  Also, we are very grateful to the Altar and Rosary Society for a very generous $4,000 donation to the parish for the ongoing care of the sanctuary and sacristy.

I invite everyone and especially all parish families with children to join us in prayer of the Family Mass on Sunday, Oct. 21st at 10:00 a.m.  Youth of our parish will be actively participating in various liturgical ministries at that Mass and I will be preaching to both children and the adults.  We will be celebrating other monthly Family Masses on Nov. 11th and Dec. 2nd.

As per the Bishop’s request, the special second collection this weekend Oct. 6-7 is for 2018 Disasters  to support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA and/or Catholic Relief Services.
