THE JOURNEY TO CATHOLICISM

ARE WE REALLY AWARE….?

The Source and Summit of the Catholic Church, and our greatest blessing, is the Eucharist. The word “Eucharist” is translated as “thanksgiving.” During our celebration of the Eucharist, of what are we really aware, what is it that we are thankful for? Do we really stop to absorb what is happening in our presence?

When we listen to The Word, do we hear what the Lord is saying directly and personally to us? When the Offertory gifts are presented, do we visualize ourselves offering our own gifts – our joys, thanks and even our fears?

During the Liturgy of the Eucharist, we may witness the priest breathe the words of Consecration over the bread and into the wine, reminiscent of Jesus breathing on the Apostles, telling them to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Jn 20:22) – do we imagine this scene and truly internalize the miracle that is taking place?  When we hear the words “This Is My Body,” do we hear the voice of Jesus?

When we are impacted and energized by what is happening in our presence, any seeker, witnessing our enthusiasm, could not help but say, “I want to be a part of this!”                     Submitted by Marguerite Mullins
