Faith Moment Reflection

The poet Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote: “My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night.” So many of us burn the candle at both ends that our lives lose balance.  We work too much.  We try to keep the perfect household. In between, there is too little time for family and friends—and for God. The good news is that balance in life is within our grasp.   In today’s gospel, after hearing how hard they had been working, Jesus invited his apostles to “come away by yourselves and rest a while.” Note that even doing God’s work can be exhausting. Achieving balance starts with recognizing God as the center of our lives. Just as we need time for rest and relaxation, we must also make time for prayer and reflection. When we do so, our faith will help restore balance and support us through all of life’s challenges.
