Pastor’s E-Note June 10, 2018

The Catholic Charities Drive continues through June.  Our parish is still about $8,000 short of its goal of $34,100.  If you have already contributed to Catholic Charities this year, thank you.  If not yet, I encourage you to do so soon.  Please show “0507 Bl. Sacr. Tonawanda” on your check to assure our parish gets the credit.  Thank you for your generous  support.

Starting June 1, 2018, our parish office is open on Fridays 9:00-12:00 noon only.  It is closed on Friday afternoons.  The office hours on other weekdays remain the same, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 – 12:00 and 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm.

We continue the discussion on how to properly address the catechetical needs of our parish on all levels in recent discovery that our parish monthly Generations of Faith program does not meet the diocesan curriculum expectations anymore.  There will be one more informational and organizational meeting on Wednesday night 20th at 7:00pm in Father Cotter Hall.  All parents, teenagers, catechists, parishioners willing to help or learn about it are welcome to attend.

St. Peregrine Healing Mass with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated this Wednesday, June 13, at 7:00 pm at our church.  First Class Relics of St. Peregrine and a new relic of Blessed Michael Sopocko (confessor of St. Faustina) will be venerated after the Mass.

I will be training new altar servers next Saturday, June 16, at 1:30 pm at our church.  Parents are encouraged to be present.

Every parish in our diocese is incorporated according to NYS laws.  As a legal corporation we have five trustees in charge of making vital decisions affecting the parish temporal matters, the Bishop, the Vicar General, the Pastor, and two parishioner Lay Trustees appointed by the Bishop.  We have been blessed by the many years of a   faithful ministry of Celine Kingsley and Brian Stevens.  Brian informed me a few weeks ago that due to the increased  family responsibilities he would be stepping down as a     parish trustee.  After consulting many faithful and wise parishioners I submitted the name of John Rozak as a  replacement candidate to the Bishop.  Just recently we    received an approval and acceptance letter from the Bishop’s office appointing John as our new parish lay trustee.  Congratulations to John and I look forward to working with him and Celine in ongoing efforts to improve the vitality of our parish.
